How Next Stop Goal works
Five football places a day.
Tap the map. Find out the story.
The basics
- Every day there are 5 clues, and they're the same for everyone.
- Each clue points to a place in the football world: a ground, a city, a birthplace.
- Tap the map where you think it is. One tap is your guess. Then you'll see the answer, how far off you were and a short story.
- A new round goes live every day at 05:00 UK time (06:00 CET). Until then you're still on the previous day's round.
- No account needed. Sign in with a code sent to your email to keep your streak on every device and appear on the leaderboard.
How each tap is scored
Your points depend only on how far your pin lands from the answer. Spot on is 100. After that the score falls gently: it's 100 divided by the square root of (1 + your distance in km ÷ 1,000), rounded to a whole number.
points = 100 ÷ √(1 + km ÷ 1,000)
A tiny extra taper takes it to exactly 0 on the far side of the planet. You won't notice it in Europe.
| Distance off | Points | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| 0 km | 100 | Perfect |
| 10 km | 100 | Perfect |
| 50 km | 98 | Right region |
| 100 km | 95 | Right region |
| 250 km | 89 | Right part of Europe |
| 500 km | 82 | Right part of Europe |
| 1,000 km | 71 | Right part of Europe |
| 2,000 km | 58 | Right part of Europe |
| 3,000 km | 50 | Right part of Europe |
| 5,000 km | 41 | Far off |
Any tap within about 10 km scores the full 100, so you never need to find the exact stand.
What the colours mean
Every tier has its own shape as well as a colour, so you never have to rely on colour alone.
| Tier | Points | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect | 100 | within ~10 km: the city or ground |
| Right region | 90–99 | within ~250 km: the right region |
| Right part of Europe | 50–89 | within ~3,000 km: the right part of Europe |
| Far off | 1–49 | further than that |
| Other side of the world | 0 | the other side of the world |
Why later questions count more
- Q1×1up to 100
- Q2×1up to 100
- Q3×2up to 200
- Q4×3up to 300
- Q5×3up to 300
The round starts with an easy warm-up and gets harder, so later clues are worth more: Q3 counts double, Q4 and Q5 triple. A perfect day is 1000, and a strong finish can rescue a slow start.
The leaderboard
- The daily leaderboard shows the top 50. Once you've played, your own row is always shown too, wherever you finish.
- Only players who were signed in before question 1 are ranked. If you play first and sign in afterwards, that round still counts for your streak and stats, just not for that day's board.
- Ties: more points wins. If points are level, the lower total distance off wins, counting each question in whole kilometres. Players still level share the rank (=1st).
Streaks
- Play on consecutive days to build a streak. Miss a day and it goes back to zero.
- A “day” is one round: it runs from 05:00 UK time to 05:00 the next morning.
- Replays of past rounds never count towards streaks or leaderboards.
- Sign in so your streak survives a new phone or a cleared browser.
Tips
- Pinch or scroll to zoom, and drag to move the map.
- Worried about fat-finger taps? Turn on “Confirm before locking in” in Settings: your first tap places a pin, and you press Lock in to guess.
- Keyboard: Tab to focus the map, move with the arrow keys, zoom with + and −, and press Enter to guess at the crosshair in the centre.
- Distances are shown in kilometres. You can switch to miles in Settings.
